Dilemma?
Lasting Friendships are not an Accident
What makes one person a great friend and another individual a person of
question? How relationships develop and what makes friendships lasting?
What is it that really creates a friendship that is lasting? How do we
develop these connections that make a difference in our life? What type of
people do we really care about and want to make connections with.
Look back in your life and think about the people that have made a
difference. Think about the teachers who aided your journey through school
and now life. Why were they important to you and why are they still
remembered? Think about those friends who have helped you through a
difficult time. They were there when we really needed them and they
propped us up.
As the old saying goes, "Friends in our life are like pillars on our
porch. Sometimes they hold us up, and sometimes they lean on us. Sometimes
it's just enough to know they're standing by."
Think about the last three people that made you feel special and
appreciated in some way. Think of those people in our life that we really
enjoy spending time. Who are your heroes in life? They may be family,
neighbors, religious, business or just someone we have read about. How
have they inspired us and why are they still a part of our memory and to
some degree our life? Why are all these people important to us? Because
they all care.
Sit down and wrote out what characteristics in a person that you really
enjoy and appreciate. Seek out those that have these types of personal
traits. For example, being able to trust the person may be very important
to you, a solid sense of honesty and compassion would be an important
trait to find in deciding on a possible friend. How about those people
that can be counted on in all situations? Reliability? A willingness to
help?
Seek first
to understand and then to be understood.

Covey
A person who lifts
and builds others up?
Service to others?
Great passion for daily life?
Enthusiasm for everything they do?
Loyalty?
A positive mental attitude?
Upbeat?
Focused?
Good conversationalist?
A sense of what is important in the world and what is not?
If we can build relationships with those people that compliment our own
personalities, our lives will be enriched by the new world of positive
friendships.
